Origins of Light is a Polish premium lighting workshop, designing and producing lamps just outside Warsaw — from the first sketch on paper to the final assembly.

In a world of mass production, we have chosen a different path. There is no automation here, no batches of a thousand identical pieces — each lamp is made by hand. We work with genuine, noble materials: carbon steel, solid brass, solid copper, porcelain, glass and bakelite. No imitations, no coating pretending to be something it isn't.

Drykowanie — a nearly forgotten technique. The shades of our lamps are shaped by hand using metal spinning (drykowanie) — a plastic forming method that gives metal its shape without breaking the continuity of the material. It demands years of practice and masterful precision, and in return delivers fluid, smooth forms with a uniform structure of steel, brass or copper, free of welds or joints, with minimal material loss.

Two lines, two finishing philosophies. The CORE line (~500–2500 PLN) is noble carbon steel, electroplated and sealed with a satin clear lacquer (Protected Finish) — maintenance-free, fingerprint-resistant. The EDITION line (~3000–12000+ PLN) features objects in solid brass or copper, in a Living Finish — raw, living metal that matures with the interior and over time develops a noble patina.

The entire process — from design and sketch, through spinning and finishing, to assembly and packing — takes place in our workshop just outside Warsaw. This lets us control every detail and freely realise bespoke projects for architects, interior designers and discerning end clients.

Each Origins of Light lamp is made to order in our Polish workshop. You decide not only on the model and colour — at every production we can fine-tune the lamp to your interior in four areas.

Drop length and suspension

We will adjust or modify the standard drop length to your mounting height — a low ceiling in a flat, a high ceiling in a spacious interior, a sloping line in an attic. The suspension can be extended or shortened; we will help you set the right proportion for the space.

Light source

The choice of bulb has a surprising influence on how you perceive the lamp. Colour (warm, neutral, cool), power, shape (classic, candle, decorative "edison"), type (LED, halogen) — all of this changes not only the amount of light but also the mood the lamp creates. We will help you select the right bulb for the specific model and your interior style; in EDITION projects we can also consider remote dimming or smooth colour-temperature change.

Paint finish

All CORE colours can be produced in a matte or gloss variant — a conscious aesthetic choice: matte absorbs light and softens the form, gloss adds reflections and accentuates geometry. State your preference when ordering and we will tailor the powder coating to the effect you want.

Raw materials — protect or leave in Living Finish

Lamps in raw steel, solid brass or copper can be finished in two ways:

• additionally protected — with a clear lacquer (Protected Finish), so the material keeps its initial tone and stays maintenance-free;
• left in Living Finish — the material darkens over time, develops a patina and an individual character. A choice for those who value authenticity and the natural ageing of noble materials.
